Matt Winkler

Matt Winkler has over ten years international experience in sports, communication, marketing, events and university-level public relations and education. As President and Founder of the marketing communications and media relations firm, MW Communications LLC (with partner Chris Stockton) and Sports Industry Education LLC, as Executive Director of the Sports and Events Marketing Experience. Matt serves an exclusive client list, including, Octagon, NFL’s USA Football, U.S. Soccer, Brotman Winter Fried Communications, Greater Washington Sports Alliance, D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission, Fight For Children’s Fight Night, The TCI Companies, USA Gymnastics Visa Cup, One Shot Racing, Hoop Dreams Scholarship Foundation and The Kevin Grevey Foundation.

Prior to founding MW Communications LLC, Matt worked in the NCAA for over ten years most recently as the Assistant Athletics Director for Public Relations at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He originated his career at Lehigh University, then began a stint of six years as Assistant Athletics Director, Communications, and Director of Athletic Communications and Sports Information at American University in Washington, D.C..

Matt’s secondary experience is extensive. Matt teaches several courses at American University, George Mason University, and George Washington University’s Sports Management Graduate Program. Beyond his academic career he served as media operations duties for several national and international events such as: the FIFA World Cup (Women’s, 2003, 1999; Men’s, 1994), IOC Olympics (2002 Salt Lake City, Winter; 1996, Atlanta, Summer); NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (2002, 2001, 1998, 1996, and 1994); NCAA Men’s Soccer Final Four (1995-99); the Goodwill Games (1994, St. Petersburg, Russia); and the Washington Redskins (2002).

Matt earned his M.A. in Public Communication at American University and is an active member of Public Relations Society of America, where he earned his APR accreditation. Matt is also a candidate for a Professional MBA in Marketing at George Washington University.

A native of Bethesda, MD, Matt currently resides in Georgetown and is a loyal fan of the Redskins, Orioles, Bullets (ahem... Wizards), Capitals, D.C. United and the Maryland Terrapins.
